Can we keep our existing Windows Server licences?
Yes. Windows guests run on Proxmox as normal VMs; your existing licences continue to apply. What disappears is the hypervisor licence, not the guest ones.
How much downtime does the migration need?
Per server, usually a single scheduled window of one to three hours. Migrations run in batches so the business is never fully offline.
What happens if a host fails after migration?
On a single host, the VMs on it stop. That is why we usually pair this service with A2 — clustering and high availability — where a host failure moves the workload automatically.
